Trinova Unscented Castile Soap

20160409_144757

Castile soap is my new go to for green cleaning. For someone like me with many allergies, harsh, chemical cleaners can actually make my allergies worse. Honestly, I foist a lot of the bleaching and chemical cleaning off on my husband because breathing in the fumes makes it hard for me to breathe and getting it on my skin can cause reactions. Castile soap, however is hypoallergenic (unless you are allergic to the scent)! This soap is a close cousin to the milennia old Allepo soap and is made from a blend of natural oils, usually olive or vegetable oils. Trinova does not specify which oils they use. You can buy it in bar form, but I prefer the liquid form, as I can dilute it easily (no grating it!) and blend in any extra ingredients. The unscented is probably the safest and most versitile, since I can buy one bottle and add my own essential oils for scent and effectiveness.

My favorite use is as a gentle, non-drying hand soap. I dilute it with a ratio of 1 part soap to 2 parts water and add a few drops of my favorite essential oil. I like calming lavender for the bathroom, but lemon or orange for the kitchen.

You can also turn it into a free and clear laundry soap, if you or a loved one is allergic to commercial laundry soaps. You can also use it to make various household cleaners, even dish soap and glass cleaner!

You can purchase Trinova on Amazon.

Silicone Lids and Food Covers for Preserving Food #ezlid

WP_20150709_001sa

Ez-lid’s silicone food covers are great for sealing containers that do not have lids, so you do not have to transfer food to new ones. I also like that they provide an air tight seal. You can’t always get that with plastic wrap or tin foil. Plus they are reusable, so they are eco-friendly and ve you money over time. Considering they are $9.99 for the two that I got or $21.99 for a pack of four in various sizes, you make back you money in a matter of months vs using saran wrap.

They are also easy to use. You simply place the lid on top of your container and press it down in the middle to create the seal. You peel it off at the edge to break the seal. I even gave my husband a mini heart attack by testing the strength of the seal. I used the small one to seal a glass of red wine and held it by the handle on top, over my white carpet. Eek! We were very happy to see that it held!

Chef Express Premium Stainless Steel Salt and Pepper Set #ChefExpress

WP_20150729_004WP_20150730_002

For a long time I have been looking for an attractive salt and pepper mill set. Most sets seem to have salt shakers, not grinders. I love using various sea and rock salts in my cooking, because they are more flavorful and are often healthier alternatives to common table salt. This Chef express set is great and suits my needs very well! I like the clear glass bowels, so you can see how much you have left. Also, if you use pink Himalayan salt or something equally as colorful, it looks great on your table!

The best part, really, is it’s functionality. Most rock salt and peppercorn grinders that I have used in the past, do not grind the salt or pepper very finely. These grinders turn out a very fine, almost powdery product. I like this because coarse salt and pepper tend to give you little “bursts” of each flavor when eating, while the fine salt and pepper blend well and distribute evenly for a consistent taste.

Memory Foam Pillow by Smarter Rest #SmarterRest

WP_20150621_002[1]

After recently purchasing a memory foam mattress to help with my back pain, I wondered if maybe a memory foam pillow would help too. I have heard lots of great things about memory foam pillows. Your head just sinks down in it for a perfect fit. Not only are they comfortable, but they are allergen resistant too!

The Smarter Rest pillow even comes with its own zip-close cover that you can remove and wash to reduce allergens. This is great because the pillow is to small to fit in a standard size pillowcase. While I found the pillow comfortable, the size was a big drawback. As a side sleeper, I found it was a little too short. Its height did not equal the length between my neck and shoulder, so my neck was tilted, instead of straight. My head also kept slipping off of it at night, when I rolled over. I would be very interested in a standard (or king!) sized pillow, if Smarter Rest would make one. As I said, it is very comfortable. Personally, I think this pillow is better used as a travel pillow or as a back support in a chair.

BriaUSA Dry/Wet Amphibious Hanger #ABSHangers

WP_20150613_009 WP_20150617_002

I have been a fan of thin, nonslip hangers for a while. I do not have much space in either my closet or my laundry area (really just a closet itself) to hang things up. The thinner hangers allow you to get more clothes into the closet, because they take up less space themselves, than the thick plastic hangers. I also avoid wire hangers because they tend to stretch out my clothes and leave “bumps” on the shoulders of my shirts. also many of my wide necked shirts slip right off of them. I have been using the thin felt ones, but they break easily, especially when you try to fit a shirt with a tight collar on it or put a heavy garment on it.

The Bria USA flat plastic hangers solve most of your clothes-hanging issues.

  • The unique s-shaped top is convenient and easy to hang clothes on. It also avoids stretching the collar of the shirt. It took me some time to figure it out. You have to slide the collar of the shirt into the open end of the gap under the hook. then you can easily insert the opposite side of the hanger into a tight collar to keep you from stretching the collar or breaking the hanger.
  •  Ergonomically designed perfect adaption to human curve, keep clothes wrinkle free.
  • Non-slip (rubber?) shoulder padding prevents clothes from slipping and provides extra support for garments.
  • The swivel hooks are made of sturdy steel and twist 360 degrees for easy maneuvering.
  • Light weight design
  • Sturdy dry/wet matte finish
  • Money-back Satisfaction Guarantee
  • Multi-purpose design is great for hanging pants, shirts, suits and jackets and accessories.
