Trinova Unscented Castile Soap

Castile soap is my new go to for green cleaning. For someone like me with many allergies, harsh, chemical cleaners can actually make my allergies worse. Honestly, I foist a lot of the bleaching and chemical cleaning off on my husband because breathing in the fumes makes it hard for me to breathe and getting it on my skin can cause reactions. Castile soap, however is hypoallergenic (unless you are allergic to the scent)! This soap is a close cousin to the milennia old Allepo soap and is made from a blend of natural oils, usually olive or vegetable oils. Trinova does not specify which oils they use. You can buy it in bar form, but I prefer the liquid form, as I can dilute it easily (no grating it!) and blend in any extra ingredients. The unscented is probably the safest and most versitile, since I can buy one bottle and add my own essential oils for scent and effectiveness.

My favorite use is as a gentle, non-drying hand soap. I dilute it with a ratio of 1 part soap to 2 parts water and add a few drops of my favorite essential oil. I like calming lavender for the bathroom, but lemon or orange for the kitchen.

You can also turn it into a free and clear laundry soap, if you or a loved one is allergic to commercial laundry soaps. You can also use it to make various household cleaners, even dish soap and glass cleaner!

FroYoga Eco-friendly Yoga Mat Towel #froYoga

While I would never consider myself a Yoga expert, I have been interested in it for a long while. I have dabbled in it via videos and apps. Most notably, I have had several yoga poses/stretches referred to me by physical therapists. Most mornings, I layout a yoga mat and do a combination of Yoga, Tai Chi Chuan, stretches, and light exercise. This is to keep my muscles loose, but strong throughout the day.

I like using a yoga mat, because it provides a slight cushion against the floor and is, in the beginning, non slip. However, if you build up a good sweat you might slip, and the mat starts to get gross. Frankly, yoga mats are awkward to clean. This is where a quality yoga towel comes in handy! I tried out the FroYoga towel. It soaks up the sweat, but has little PVC dots that will adhere to the yoga mat to prevent slippage.

As you can see from the photo, it fits right over the mat and at 24″ x 72″ they are designed to work great with longer mats as well as standard-length mats. It is non-toxic, AZO free, and free of heavy metals. The fabric is light and soft. It is also hygienic, as you can fold it up when you are done and wash it easily. Because of this, it is great in situations when you are borrowing a mat from the yoga studio or a friend. The towel also comes with it’s own mesh carrying bag for easy transport!

Greenwald’s Citrus All Purpose Cleaner Review #CitrusCleaner

My favorite cleaner to use in the kitchen is a citrus cleaner. It cuts through grease and leaves a fresh scent in the process! This time I tried our Greenwald’s Citrus cleaner. It is convenient, space saving and relatively inexpensive. The starter kit that I received contains one spray bottle and six packs of concentrated solution. Each pack makes one bottle of solution. This way you don’t have to buy whole new bottle each time you run out. You simply add a refill pack to the bottle, fill it up,  lightly shake it, and you are done. Essentially you have 6 bottles of cleaner in one small container! You can see the sequence of me filling my first bottle below:

  

The reusable bottle also makes it environmentally friendly too. However, I am not sure the same can be said for the cleaner itself as it came with a page of chemical warnings, meaning it is not entirely natural. The packaging also lacks a list of ingredients, but it has a note saying they won’t list them because they don’t want to give away a “trade secret.” In fact, it reminds me of the cleaners used in commercial kitchens. It works really well! It tackled all of the stubborn grease on the stove after cooking dinner. It’s definitely worth a try. I LOVE wine. I drink it on a regular basis. I love pairing it with the meals that I make. One thing I don’t love about drinking wine is re-corking an unfinished bottle. Once the cork pops out, you can not get it back in easily. Even if you do, it may not have an air tight seal. Being exposed to air changes the flavor of the wine. Also, if the seal isn’t air tight, you cant store the wine on its side, because it will leak. And what do you do if the cork splits when you remove it?
